  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    The French and Indian War had just ended. The King of England made a proclamation that the land west of the major rivers, the Ohio to the Mississippi, were off limits to the people living in the colonies. The Indians had the land that was off limits to the colonists.
  • Sugar Act of 1764

    Sugar Act of 1764
    The parliment began putting taxes on sugar and molasses for the colonists. Colonists would then smuggle the sugar or molasses past the tax collecters so they wouldn't have to pay tax. The colonists would be taken to jail. They then sued the Vice Admirality because they hadn't been following the laws that were in order in England, that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. The colonists were just being put in jail with out being tried.

    The parliment decided on September 1st, 1764 that the colonists would use money called the colonist bill. The parliment favored the coin in England, so the colonists money was not as good for trade and purchases. The colonies protested and didn't have trade with England.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    The parliment passed a law that made the colonists have to pay tax on every piece of paper they used. The colonists were angry about this because by letting the parliment do this, it would allow them to tax on more ridiculous things in the future. The colonists met together and decided they had the same rights as the people in England and that it wasn't fair. They decided that they shouldn't pay taxes on anything unless they decided on it.
  • The Quartering Act of 1765

    The Parlement decided that if they were providing soldiers and people who were helping the colonists should be allowed to stay in the colonists homes for any amount of time. If there were not enough room for the British forces to stay in the house with the colonists, the Governer could kick the people out of their house.
  • Declaratory Act of 1766

    The parliment passed a law that said that they could take any action (taxing, housing, etc.) on the colonists that helped the good of the empire. This left the colonists unable to do anything against them.
  • Townshed Act of 1767

    Townshed Act of 1767
    Charles Townshed decided that they needed to have more British milatary forces in the United States so they colonists wouldn't resist the taxes as much. (I couldn't find an exact date, just the year)
