    Frech and Indian war
    The war started in 1754. The war was between Great Britain the French and Indians of North America and was for the most part fought in canada. Britain won the war and gave canada the right to stay in the new world. This lead to America fighting for independence from britain becasue it showed Britain that we were willing to fight against them.

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The sugar act put a 3 cent tax on foreign sugar.Taxes on wine indigo and coffee. These taxes were raised without consent of the colonists. in addition to this, the importation of french wine and rum was banned. The tax on sugar made the colonists mad lowering their trust of the British even more moving the colonies closer to a war with the British.

    Stamp Act
    This was the first tax that the british put directly on the colonists. Every legal document such as newspapers and pamphlets had to have a stamp. The people did not like that they would have to pay for this when they had been doing it for free for so long. In March of 1766 the government repealed the act. Yet again this made the colonies lose trust in Britain and and added flames to the fire that eventually started the war.

    The colonists were not happy with having to pay for stamps after they had been free for so long. To show their anger they created the stamp act congress. After seeing the reaction of the colonies the act was repealed. This congress showed The British That they were going to stand up for what they wanted and that they would rebel against them.

    Laws in 1767 named after the british treasurer Charles Townshend. these laws put taxes on lead, paper, paint, tea, and glass. the colonies reacted the same way they did for the sugar act and the stamp act causing the british to eventually repeal the taxes with the exception of the the taxes placed on tea. Yet again the colonies showed their anger towards the british creating even more tension between the two that eventually led them toward a war.

    On March 5, 1770 five colonists were shot by the british. One person was killed, an African American mad by the name of Crispus Attacks. This incident made the colonists trust the british and their military even less.

    The colonists were angered by the new tax on tea so they disguised themselves as Mohawk Native Americans and went on three ships the Eleanor, Dartmouth, and the Beaver. while on board they dumped 342 crates of tea off the boat into the boston harbor. the same thing was happening in many other places as well and eventually tea was boycotted in the colonies. this was a great act of rebellion toward the british that cause them a mass amount of money making the british even more angry with us.

    56 different delegates from 12 different colonies got together to talk about the intolerable acts and think of a way to respond. this showed that we were planning a rebellion against the British that would eventually end up being war.

    The British occupied boston and were moving on to concord. on the way they went through lexington and the famous first shot was fired while no one knows who fired the first shot it was known as “the shot heard around the world.” the colonists were overpowered and withdrew however the did slow the british down. and allowed the colonists in concord to be ready for them. the red coats were forced to retreat. this was the beginning of the war and showed that we were under estimated.

    The congress met when the revolutionary war was beginning. Things were not going in their favor. The Congress created a continental army. George washington was made the commander-in-chief. throughout the summer they created the declaration of independence, the Marines corps, and the Articles of Confederation. this was just one more step toward rebellion of the British.

    George Washington was the first president of the united states and served two terms. He fought for the british in the indian and french war and in the revolutionary war was the commanding officer of the victorious american forces. During his run as president he created the cabinet and attempted to calm things between the federalists and democrats.

    A battle between the British and the america Colonies that lasted two days.On the first day Charlestown’s Breed hill was occupied by the Americans. The next day the British took the hill they continued to fight until they were out of ammunition.

    Thomas Paine was an American soldier and Patriot. He gave the american Colonists the inspiration to rebel against the British.
  • The British evacuate Boston

    The British evacuate Boston
    George Washington placed cannons 800 to 1,200 soldiers were sent to fortify the area. On March 17 1776 the british were forced to leave to safety and 11,000 British troops and 1,000 Loyalists because they knew that they would not be able to defend themselves.

    Richard Henry Lee was a great supporter of american independence and he knew that the likelihood of war was growing larger and larger.

    Declaration of Independence adopted
    The declaration gave the colonies independence from Britain. The declaration was written by Thomas Jefferson.

    The declaration was signed off by John Hancock, John adams, and Samuel Adams. The British then said that they wanted to continue the war.
