    end of French and Indian war
    The French and Indian War was also known as the Seven Year's War. The French and Indian War started as a dispute over land in the Ohio River Valley. Fighting took place throughout North America, Europe, and India. The French and English battled for control over various colonial enterprises. Eventually, after the Battle of Quebec, the English were victorious. However, it cost them quite a large sum of money. This is significant because the debt incured by the English led to the Navigation Acts
  • the Proclamation of 1763

    the Proclamation of 1763
    This banned the colonists from settling west of the line in the Appalachian Mountains and they can only be east of the line. The colonists believed they had a right to live where they pleased. They felt widley ignored because it was iimpossible for the British to enforce.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    the Sugar Act was a tax on sugar from Britain put on the colonists. Without conset, the tax was raised and even before this, the colonists felt the tax was unjust and uneccessary. Colonists felt their opinions weren't being heard.
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    Quartering Act of 1765
    This act enabled british troops to quarter in colonist housing and be provided with food and shelter. Undoubtebly, the colonist felt it was too costly to provide for all these troops and that local militiamen were sufficient for protection.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    Britain set an act upon the colonist in which they had to pay a tax on every article of paper with a stamp. The colonists were outraged because they felt that they were being used to raise British revenue without the consent of colonial legislation.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Britain won't tax goods in the colonies. Tax on imports to the colonies. The tax was on glass, paper, lead, tea, ect. The Writs of Assistance allowed British customs officials to search ships. The colonists knew this was still a tax. They felt their rights have been violated. The colonists smuggled goods into the colonies. They tried to reduce imports to the colonies.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A brief quarrel between colonists and British troops erupted in Boston. The act, which injured few, created mass outrage and provided reason for the colonist to resist any British power. They felt that they were being attacked and that all and any troops were unsafe. Paul Revere depictes this picture that tousands of colonists saw and thought to be as murder.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    in retaliation to British tax on the common staple of tea, 200 colonists dressed as Native Americans dumped 300 pounds of tea provided from the East India Trade Company into Boston Harbor in order to show their hatred towards unfair taxation. Again, both colonist and British agitation grew.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    In response to the Boston Tea Party, British Parliament created 5 acts that enforced power over the colonists under King's Rule. The colonists felt as if they were forced to rebell if they were to receive any source of independence from Britain: they were angered because they felt even more taxes just worsened the burder of not only price but the fact that their ideals were being ignored.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    This was a meeting of 12 of the thirteen colonies (exept Georgia) in Philidelphia in order to fix the problems occurring in the current state of the colonies (not neccessarily independence). Like the Stamp Act Congress, unity created a sense of accomplishment for the colonist and enabled more power to grow without the British looming every minute.
  • Battle of Lexington and Concord

    Battle of Lexington and Concord
    British troops were trying to remove all ammunition and weapons from any colonist while the colonists were revolting is any way possible. When two groups from each apposing force met, a random and unexpected shot was fired which caused warfare. "The Shot Heard Round the World" was the spark that basically created the Revolutionary War between Britain and the colonists.
