    This was a law that made the northerners mad because this was bringing slavery to the north. The law stated if a slave was owned and he went up to the north he would still be a slave. So if someone looked like the slave they would be taken to the south.

    Brooks-Sumner Affair
    Charles Sumner was a politician who was an abolitionist. He approached Congress talking about slavery. He messed up when he called out Andrew Butler. Sumner called Butler out for his involvement with the Kansas-Nebraska Act. Sumner began to talk about Butler and he called his wife a whore. After the meeting was over Butler’s cousin Preston Brooks gathered up a mob and they beat Charles Sumner with canes. After that day, every year for Sumner’s birthday, the mob sent him a golden cane.

    Dred Scott was a former slave who was captured in a free state and was made a slave again. He decided to take fight it in court,he felt that he should have been emancipated,but it was unsuccessful. The judge ruled that no black, free or slave could U.S. citizenship, therefore blacks couldn’t petition for their freedom in court.
