    War between Japan and Russia in Manchuria and Korea. It ended with Japanese victory, which allowed Japan to gain international recognition for the strength
  • Japanese Annexation of Korea

    Japan officially annexes Korea into their empire.

    Taisho Democracy

    The Taisho democracy is marked by the rise of Emperor Taisho, who was a sickly man. This shifted the power to more liberal democractic parties and oglirachy as the older generations of influential people came to power. The period marks Japans more globalized approach but is undermimed by the greedy corporations who was tied to politics.
  • Twenty-One Demands on China

    This Demands required Japan to gain access to Shandong in China and to place economical and political benefits in Manchuria. Later, the demands were toned down after the Western powers wanted to limit Japan's influence in Asia. Ultimately, the Demands was accepted by Yuan Shikai, to appease Japan.
  • Manchurian Crisis

    This event occured when the Mukden railway was blown up. With dubious evidence, the Japance declared that China had done the attack and used this as a reason to conquer Manchurian area. This action was condemned by the League, but not much else was done.
  • Army Revolt

    During this period, the Army revolted against the political system in place. What happened was that the flourishing militarist ideology had been slowly gaining traction during the failure of the Taisho democracy and thus this paved way for the Army Generals to be more influential as they had more voice in political matters.
  • Creation of Manchukuo

    Japanese created the Manchukuo state as a puppet governement, claiming that they had 'liberated' the Chinese people.
  • Repeal of Washington Naval Treaty

    The Japanese did not renew the Treaties, which is another sign of Japanese Militarism and agressive International policies.
  • Anti-Commintern Pact

    This pact was signed betweend Germany and Japan. This was another evidence that Japan was begining to be more agressive to acquire terrirtory. The Treaty meant that Japan was essentially to have full dominance on Asia if Hitler was victorious.

    Sino-Japanese War

    This war was started after the Marco Polo bridge incident. This war would lead to the Rape of Nanking and create a period of instability that would last until the end of WW2. Japan eventually lost as it had to conquer so much land it streched Japans supply and army thin.
  • Formation of Imperial Rule Assistance Association

    This event marks the end of any political freedom Japan previously had. The final outcome was that Nationalism was victorious and because the basis of both internal and external policies of Japan.

    A Treaty signed with Italy, Germany and Japan that furthered Japans dominance in Asian region.

    World War 2

    Japan was mainly involved in the asian region of the war. Eventually Japan lost its grip in Asia and the War ended with two atomic bombings on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
  • Pearl Harbour

    This boming on the Pearl Harbour marks Japans retaliation to US embargo, which had been thinning their oil supplies. US declared war on Japan, thus ending US isolationist policy and placing US as an Allied force.
