  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act
    The British placed the Sugar Act on the American colonists in 1764 to pax extra taxes every time they bought sugar. The British placed this tax on the colonists because they wanted more money to pay for security in the colonies.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    Committees of Correspondence
    The Committees of Correspondence was founded by Samuel Adams. What the committees did was they communicated with other colonies and its members shared ideas about about the British laws being placed upon them and how to act about them. They did all of this at a Boston town meeting.
  • The Stamp Act of 1765

    The Stamp Act of 1765
    The Stamp Act of 1765 required colonists to pay for a stamp when they bought paper items. Any colonist who refused to pay this tax was either fined or sent to jail. This was Parliament's first attempt to raise money by taxing the colonies directly.
  • Sons of Liberty

    Sons of Liberty
    The Sons of Liberty was formed when the British passed the Stamp Act of 1775. This group was formed in Boston, Massachusetts to protest against the Stamp Act which taxed the American colonists.
  • Townshend Acts

    Townshend Acts
    Parliament passed the Townshend Acts to place duties on raw materials. Wrts of assistance was approved along with the Townshend Acts which allowed tax collectors to search for smuggled goods. This angered the colonists and British troops were sent to Boston in 1768.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    Colonists were angered by all of the British troops in the colonies and were yelling at the soldiers in Boston when all of the sudden the soldiers shot at he crowd killing six people. This day is known as the Boston Massacre.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was passed by British Parliament and allowed the British East India Company to sell tea directly to the colonists. The first three ships arrived in Boston, Massachusetts.
  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party
    The Boston Tea Party was when a group of colonists disguised as Indians sneaked onto the three ships that imported tea from the tea act, and dumped over 340tea chests into the Boston Harbor!
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were laws passed by Parliament to punish Boston. These were the laws: the Boston Harbor was to be closed until the Bostonians paid for the ruined tea, Massachusetts charter was to be cancelled, royal officials accussed of crimes were to be sent to Britain to be tried, a Quartering Act was passed that required colonists to house British soldiers, the Quebec Act gave land to Quebec, and General Thomas Gage was to be the new governer of Massachusetts.
  • The First Continental Congress

    The First Continental Congress
    The First Continental Congress gathered colonial leaers to discuss their colonies relationships with Britain. This meeting took place at Carpenter's Hall, in Philadelphia. The delegates agreed that if the king refused to correct the problems in the colonies, they would meet again in 1775.
