The British Acts

  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The act was passed to gain more money for the debt of the French and Indian War, and to stop people from smuggling sugar into the colonies. The act said that you have to pay a tax for importing sugar to you. Colonists were mad about this because the British was taking away their income and rum.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    The act was passed to enforce the acts and because the soldiers were protection from the remaining Frenchmen and African Americans. The act provided shelter and food for the British soldiers. The colonists did not approve of random people coming into their homes and having to feed them randomly.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act was passed because the colonists were complaining about the sugar act so they added the stamp act. The Prime Minister said that its fair because the citizens are already paying taxes which are similar. The act was that if you wanted paper then you got to pay for a stamp which you have to pay a tax for. The colonists got mad that the paper price kept rising.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    This act was passed to address the colonists frustration. The act would stretch the power of the British soldiers stationed in the colonies. It also taxed on goods imported to the colonists, the soldiers can search any home too if they want too.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was passed to get money from taxing tea from the colonists to the British. It says that, "to any of the British colonies or plantations in America, the whole of the duties of customs payable upon the importation of such teas." The colonists were furious that they have been making teas more expensive.
  • Boston Port Act

    Boston Port Act
    The Boston Port Act was passed because Britain was losing control of the 13 colonies. It says that they aren't aloud to load or unload at the docks without paying the tax for it. It was in Massachusetts Bay, New England.
  • MA Government Act an the Administration of Justice Act

    MA Government Act an the Administration of Justice Act
    This act was passed to regain control of the 13 colonies. The act said that you can't have meetings without the lead of the government.
  • Quebec Act

    Quebec Act
    This act was passed to gain more land, and get the citizens for money/taxes. They were adding more land to the 13 colonies and claimed that it was there's, They are giving some 13 colonies land to the Quebec citizens. The colonists were mad that they were taking away their freedom.
