  • Sugar and Molasses Act

    Sugar and Molasses Act

    This was a British law that added a tax on sugar and molasses and rum.
    The colonists claimed that the British West Indies by itself could not produce enough molasses for the colonists’ needs. Rum distilling was a leading industry. This act had an impact on the prices of molasses.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    After the French and Indian War, the British wanted to stop the Indians. So they checked on the intrusion of the colonists. They created a law to not head West of the stats (colonies) because there were too many Natives and Spaniards.
  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    The Currency Act is a law that didn’t let colonists make their money, so they had to use the British’s form of currency. Colonies consistently had a shortage on currencies. There were no gold or silver mines and the colonists can only get it by trading (as told by Great Britain). The colonies thought that there was no point in making paper money (Bills of Credit). There were no regulations and no standard values to base the prices and money on.

    The British put tax onto the American colonies (more specifically, paper). They used clay as receipts to buy paper.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was an event where British soldiers split up in a city and aimed on a rioting mob which killed 5 American citizens. Called a “massacre” to make the British look bad. The colonists were actually the bad ones because they teased and messed with the soldiers and, they even threw snowballs with rocks in them.

    This is a group of colonists from Massachusetts who dressed up as Mohawk Indians They boarded British tea ships and dumped 342 chests of tea into the water.
  • First Continental Congress

    (Sept. 5- Oct. 26 1774)
    This was a meet up of representatives from the 13 colonies. 12 of the colonies showed up. It was held to write a list about why the British were “bullies”. Acts that the colonists disliked:
    Quartering Act
    Boston Port Bill
    Administration of Justice Act
    Massachusetts Government Act
    Quebec Act
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts are British laws that were passed down by the legislature of Great Britain.
    (Aka Coercive) Impartial Administration of Justice Act: Granted governors to change a trial to a different colony if they thought that the jurors (jury) didn’t judge the case properly.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The Battles of Lexington and Concord
    This was a military conflict between the Great Kingdom of Britain and the 13 colonies in North America. Lexington:
    8 colonists were killed
    British were sent out to capture Sam Adams and John Hancock. Concord:
    They (Minutemen aka farmers) had guns and hid behind buildings and many things. British weren’t aware of where the colonists hid.
    The British were sent to get gunpowder. At this time, Paul Revere had his friend hung up the lights (showed the signal).
  • Quartering Act of 1765

    This was when a name was given to the American colonies to give the British supplies that they needed. They were placed into colonists’ homes to punish them for the Tea Party and to punish rebellious colonists.
