Revolutionary Era Events

  • Navigation Acts

    The Navigation Acts registered trade between England and the 13 Colonies. This caused friction between them. The 13 Colonies could only export to England and could only export some goods. They could only trade with each other.
  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian War was when the British, Native Americans and French fought over the Ohio River Valley. The British removed the French from North America and caused death, plus the taxes were raised.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    The Proclamation of 1763 was when the colonists and Native Americans had conflict, so they drew an imaginary line on the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists could not expand and colonists who were already there had to move back east.
  • Sugar Acts

    The Sugar Acts were when Grenville put taxes on molasses, as it was an important part of the triangle trade. He did this so England could make more money. The colonists did not like this.
  • The Quartering Acts

    The Quartering Acts were passed for British soldiers to move into colonists’ homes and searched their belongings and the colonists had to provide food and drink to the soldiers. This was one of the things that led to the Boston Massacre.
  • The Townshend Acts

    The Townshend Acts were introduced to the English Parliament by Charles Townshend. They put taxes on goods such as glass, paper, paint, lead, and tea. Colonists objected and were furious. It led to petitions, protests, rallies, etc.
  • Boston Massacre

    The colonists grew very angry at soldiers because of taxation, and they threw things such as clam shells and ice chunks to get revenge. The soldiers fired and five people were killed, and six were injured.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was passed by Parliament to tax the colonists on tea. It was also to save the struggling British East India Company. This act led to the Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was a political protest against the Tea Act, by the Sons of Liberty, which led to angry British, and the Intolerable Acts.
  • Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts were passed to the colonists by Parliament to punish them for the Boston Tea Party. The first act was shutting down the port of Boston, second, Parliament forbade Massachussets to hold meetings without permission. Next, Parliament allowed customs officers and other officials to be tried in Britain or Canada, and finally, a new Quartering Act.
