  • Jethro Tull

    Tull perfected the horse drawn hoe, called a seed drill that sowed seeds into neat rows. This ended people from planting seeds by hand, which would take hours upon hours. The seed drill fastened this process incredibly, making the agriculture revolution begin to mold into the Industrial Revolution.
  • Abraham Durby

    Durby was the mind behind the iron use of the Industrial revolution, making it much more known and used. He discovered a method of ridding the impurities of iron by placing the iron in a blast furnace and mixing it with coke.
  • Thomas Newcomen

    Newcomen developed the first machine to harnesss steam power to benefit human activity. The idea came from two other individuals, but Newcomen perfected it, with the capactiy to only work in 30 feet deep water. The machine was very popular upon mines, in which it pumped water out of the mines, preventing floods.
  • Richard Arkwright

    Arkwright invented the spinning frame, later called the water frame, which spun yarn very fast making it thicker and more lengthy. His partner was John Kay, who helped him invent the machine. This machine was also responsible for the boom of the Textile Industry and the creation of the first factories.
  • James Hargreaves

    Hargreaves is the man who is credited for inventing the spinning jenny which sped up the process of the textile industry. This invention reduced the amount of work needed to produce yarn. The worker was able to use eight of more spools, it would later become 120 spools as time continued.
  • James Watt

    Watt took the ideas of what the steam engine was based on and advanced it into pumping more water than it had previously, taking away the fault of how deep the water had to be. He also developed the name horsepower.
  • Alessandro Volta

    Volta was an Italian physicist who invented the battery. The battery now a days is a vital part of energy to our community, from portable devices to remotes. He set a precedent for generations to come from the 2 electrode battery he invented. The term Volt is also referred by his name and his invention.
  • Eli Whitney

    Whitney created the cotton gin and was the mastermind behind interchangebale parts, which saved consumers a lot of money. His cotton gin was also a huge factor in the Industrial Revolution, influencing slavery. In addition, the cotton gin was a machine that seperated the cotton fibers from the seeds, which by hand was extremely time consuming and difficult.
  • Robert Fulton

    Fulton created the steamboat, and was the first one to be succesful; after his success he created the first submarine, which was built for Napolean when he changed his aleginace to Europe. Furthermore, Fulton was actually influenced by James Watt's steam engine, thus becoming interested in steam boats.
  • George Stephenson

    Stephenson was a civil engineer who was the mastermind behind the first railway project. He was named the "Father of Railways". And the machine that was used to power the trains were the steam locomotive trains invented just prior to his idea of the railways. He is also given credit to inventing the steam locomotive.
  • Robert Owen

    Robert Owen was one of the founding fathers of socialism and the cooperative movement. He tried to abolish poverty through socialism, and tried to build a utopian community called New Harmony which would later fall to failure. He also strived to get better quality of jobs, living conditions, and education of the middle class.
  • Karl Marx

    Marx was the mastermind behind communism and its ideas. Even though he studied for philosophy, he turned to economics and politics, then creating communism. His first work on it was released in 1848 called The Communist Manifest. His ideas would later be adapted to several countries.
