This was Davie Bowie's debut album. It was considered a flop with only one single "Rubberband". This album was influenced by folk music and the pop music of the time. I believe that in this album, David Bowie had yet to find his own creativity and was trying to be like everyone else.

Although his first album had the same name, this is his second album. This was his breakthough album. The single that made it a hit was "Space Oddity" a song based off of the moive 2001;A space Odyssey. This album was the first time David Bowie worked with producer Tony Visconti, whom Bowie reguards as one of the forces behind his initial success. This album as well was very folk rock, but you could see Bowie's own style much more then in his debut.

This album was completely different from the one before it. For the first, Bowie wasn't making pop, folk muisc. This album had a hard rock, heavy metal tone to it. Also this was the start of Bowies glam rock muisc. He started at this time dressing like a woman becuase of his wife's idea that it would make him more desirable to women.

    Hunky Dory Is Released
This album set the blueprint for all of the albums to follow. The first single "Changes" was a major hit song which was about Bowies own views of how artist creativity is a cycle of endless change. This album had many different genres which include folk, rock, glam rock and for his first time art rock.
  • The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is Released

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is Released
This album was Bowie's highest selling album ever. It is considered one of the best albums ever created by Rolling Stone and many others. For the first time, Bowie was not being himself, but a character of his own creation Ziggy Stardust. Many things influenced him to make this change to a character such as his interest in Japanese theater, artist Iggy Pop and the need to become something other than himself to reach new forms of art.
  • Aladdin Sane is Released

    Aladdin Sane is Released
This album was the forefron of David Bowie's personalization to his music. Influenced very much so by his cocaine addiction, and the endless feeling of constantly morphing himself, the title alone is an indicator of his struggle.
  • Young Americans is Released

    Young Americans is Released
For this album Bowie took a completely different appoarch and decided that it would be a R and B album. After the success of Ziggy Stardust, Bowie wanted to make music that was different in everyway. Also, he always loved R and B music. The album was a hit with singles such as "Young Americans" and "Fame."
  • Station to Station

    Station to Station
This album was made during Bowies work on the movie "The Man who Fell to Earth". He created a new character for this album which he called the 'Thin White Duke" which he would use to make darker music .This album he states, "was just fueled by his cocaine addiction and was a reflection of his inner world of terror he had at the time."
  • Low is Released

    Low is Released
As his last album was fueled by his cocaine addiction this ablum was fueled by his quting of cocaine and dealing with the withdrawl of it.This album was more experimental in which bowie was trying to make an avant garde style of music. It is the first of a trilogy of albums named the "Berlin Trilogy" in which they all follow the avant garde style presented in this first album. This is my personal favorite album
  • "Heroes" is Released

  • Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) is Released

Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps) is Released
While the "Berlin Trilogy" was a creative success, it was not financially. So for this album, Bowie was more concerned with the commerical success of the album. Which worked as it was a #1 album in the U.K. This album's genre was manly new wave, which David Bowie is credited for creating. It is considered his last true masterpiece.

On this album, Bowie just wanted to make a hit record, so he decided for the first time he would not play any instruments on the album. This album was the biggest success of Bowies career. Selling more worldwide then any other album before it. Bowie himself never liked the album because he felt it was a "sell out" album

The next major creative change for Bowie was this album which was all in the genre of drum and bass. It was Bowies which is acredited for the creation of electronica music with his early albums. Also, it was the first album ever available digitally.
  • The Next Day is Released

    The Next Day is Released
This is the last album as of now that has been releeased by Bowie. It was the first he made in over ten years with his long time producer Tony Visconti. This album showed how Bowie has grown as a artist creatively to be a mature and very creative artist. With songs such as "Where are We Now?" which is about the comparison between Berlin the day the wall fell and how it is today.
