  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    Taxed all sugar to colonies to repay Britain after 7 Year War. Taxed sugar at 3 pence per pound.
    Colonists weren't real upset about the tax as it was less than the previous Molasses tax, but because they didn't want to pay a tax when they had no representation in Parliament. They had no say so.
    Britain repealed the Sugar Act in 1766.

  • Currency Act

    Currency Act
    Parliament took over control of the colonists' currency system. Colonies couldn't print their own money. Wanted to do away with paper money and use British pounds. Colonists protested due to no representation. Colonial governments fought for repealing it. Britain revised the Currency Act in 1770 and allowed New York to print and issue paper bills. https://alphahistory.com/americanrevolution/currency-act/
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    First tax on only colonists. All paper except books needed a stamp. Stamps had prices depending on what document they were going on. Was supposed to payback Britain for 7 Year War. Colonists were angry because they didn't want to be taxed and they had no representation in Parliament. Formed mobs to intimidate stamp collectors. Parliament repealed the Stamp Act in 1766 after months of protest.

  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Required colonists to provide food, drink, quarters, fuel and transportation to British soldiers staying in their town. The colonists hated it because they were being taxed on food and goods they provided to the soldiers.   • Townsend Act

    Townsend Act
    Townsend Act taxed goods that were imported into the colonies. Money raised would pay for government officials in order to keep them loyal to Britain. The colonists were angry and boycotted British gods. There was verbal and physical resistance. No representation again!
