    The love of art and literature was a key feature to the beginning of a period called the Reanaissance. The word Renaissance means "rebirth" and refers to a time following the Middle Ages. Another thing that was a key feature of the Renaissance was new ways of thinking.

    Around the middle of the Renaissance, a new way of thinking was developed. It was called humanism. It is a way of thinking and learning that stresses the importance of human abilities and actions. There where also advances in math and science. They created many mathmatical symbols such as the square root, positive, and negative. These symbols helped architects make strong buildings. Also, astronomers discovered that the sun revolves around the sun.

    During the Renaissance, there were changes in education. They started to learn about humanities. A famous scholar named Petrarch stressed the importantce of history too. Papermaking spread from China to Europe. Several factories were making it by the 1300s. Paper soon replaced animal skins.Snce paer was now easy to produce, many Christians started to print the bible and make it become more available.

    As humanism spread into Northern Europe, it took on a religious form. Scholars created Christian humanism, which is a blend of humanist and religious ideas. Northern Europeans also brought key changes to Renaissance art. They used a more realistic style of painting. People seemed more lifelike with physical flaws and such. Many scenes were of daily life.
