  • Dream Sequence

    Going back to Manderley in a dream. It is all ruined and nature has overtaken it.
  • Hotel Room

    Shes reflecting on her life after Manderley. Half way through, she begins to look back to the time when she was in Monte Carlo. This is where she first saw Maxim de Winter.
    "It's Max de Winter, the man who owns Manderley. You've heard of it, of course. He looks ill, doesnt he? They say he can't get over his wife's death..."
  • In Monte Carlo

    Mrs Vanhopper and the narrator has coffee with Max. Max seems a bit rude and he goes to apologise to Mrs Vanhopper and the narrator.
    "I wonder what my life would be today if Mrs Vanhopper, had not been a snob." -Narrator.
  • Mrs Vanhopper gets sick

    Mrs Vanhopper is sick and so the narrator has the day off. She goes with Max for a drive to a cliff. Max gets very emotional and he also giver the narrator a book which was a gift from Rebecca. The narrator starts to feel slightly spooked out.
    "He had the face of one that walks in his sleep and for a wild monent the idea came to me that he was not normal and not all together sane." - Narrator.
  • Going to New York

    Maxim and the narrator tell Mrs Vanhopper that theyre going away together. Maxim proposes over breakfast in an abrupt manner. He tells Mrs Vanhopper about the engagement, and she becomes put off.
    "Of course, you know why he's marrying you, don't you? You haven't flattered yourself, he's in love with you. The fact is that empty go on his nerves to such an extent he nearly went off his head. He admitted as much before he came into the room, he just can't go on living there alone..." - Mrs Vanhoppe
  • At Manderley

    Maxim and the narrator arrive at Manderley, She was curious, anxious and excited.
  • Settling into Manderley

    The narrator is getting used to Manderley.
  • 2009-2015

    Finding more about Rebecca. Meets Beatrice and Frank Crawley. Becomes scared of Mrs Danvers
  • Visiting the Grandma

    The narrator visits Maxim's grandma. The grandma is expecting Rebecca and this makes the narrator feel slightly awkward. "Where is Rebecca, I'm so fond of Rebecca." - Maxim's grandma.
  • The Ball

    She dresses up in a costume that Rebecca dressed up in last year. This causes confusion and people think she is Rebecca.
  • 2018-2019

    Mrs Danvers tries to convince the narrator to commit suicide by jumping.
    "Why don't you go... he does'nt want you and never did." - Mrs Danvers. "He can't forget her....It's you who ought to be dead, not Mrs de Winter".
    Just before the narrator is about to commit suicide a ship gets stranded and all the people at Manderley try to help. A diver goes underwater and finds Rebecca's boat underwater.
  • How Rebecca is killed.

    Maxim explains how Reebecca is killed and says how she was a horrible person. "When I married her I was told I was the luckiest man."
  • Period: to

    Chapter 21 - 23

    There is an inquest into Rebecca's death. During the inquest, the boat-maker says how the sailing boat looked like it had been deliberately sabotaged, suggesting murder. However, the inquest ocmes to the decision of suicide because there is no evidence to implicate anyone. Favell comes to Manderley and tries to blackmail Maxim saying that he is the murderer.

    Rebecca's cousin

    Jack tells everyone that Rebecca and him were lovers. They look into Rebecca's journal and see that she had booked a doctor's appointment. Everyone assumed she was pregnant but the next day they go to London and the doctor told them that she had terminal stomach cancer. This convinces the coroner of Rebecca's committing suicide and do the mystery is solved, so they think. When the narrator and Maxim get back to Manderley, they find it burnt to the ground and Mrs Danvers is blamed.
