  • Coal Strike of 1902

    Workers strike for 3 days about higher wages and shorter hours.

  • The Newlands Reclamation Act

    This act was passed on 1902 and authorized the use of federal funds from public land sales to pay for irrigation and land development projects.
  • Created Department of Commerce and Labor

    Roosevelt convinced Congress to create the Department of Commerce and Labor. This department investigated U.S. steel a gigantic holding company. The department told the company privately about the problems and let them fix the problems
  • Northern Securities v. United States

    The Supreme Court had a case called the Northern Securities. The state was simply buying stock in other companies, From a 5-4 decision they passed the Antitrust Act.
  • United States Forest Service

    Roosevelt supported careful management of the timber resources of the West and appointed his close friend Gifford Pinchot to be head of the United States Forest Service.
  • Meat Inspection Act

    This act required federal inspection of meat sold through interstate commerce and required the Agriculture Department to set standards of cleanliness in meatpacking plants.
  • Food and Drug Administration

    The Bureau of Chemistry at the U.S Department of Agriculture was given authority to inspect business operations and was in charge of enforcing the Pure Food and Drug act.
  • Bureau of Mines

    The Bureau of mines were created by William Howard Taft. The Bureau was used to monitor the activities of mining companies, expand national forests, and protect waterpower sties from private development. Also helped make possible new technologies in the field of mining.
  • System of National Parks

    Roosevelt added more than 100 million acres to the protected national forests and established five new national parks and 51 federal wildlife reservation. His concern for the environment and for protection of the wild areas of the United States helped develop a national park system that lead to the establishment of the National Park Service.
