Tommo goes to school.
They meet Molly at school.
Their father dies and Tommo feels responsible.

The colonel starts to hate the Peaceful's
Charlie gets a beating from Mr Munnings for standing up for Tommo about Big Joe.
Molly becomes one of them
The wolf woman comes to stay. Foreshadowing about Tommo's potential sleep talking as he wakes up screaming.
"From the day Grandma wolf moved in our whole world changed" -
Nearly quarter past eleven
BIg Joe's birthday- Molly gets in a harvest mouse.
They start poaching on the colonel's land because they don't have enough food to live.
Molly gets sick with scarlet fever.
colonel's wife dies, Mum comes back.
Molly tells their future and says they will be together forever.
"We hoped Molly would wave at us, when she didn't we knew she was really ill" -
ten to midnight
The boys get caught poaching and must work for the colonel.
CHarlie and Molly leave school
They meet Bertha and steal her because the colonel wants to kill her.
They see the yellow plane land and get humbugs.
Mr Munnings gives Tommo a beating.
"Tommo I'm in trouble" Page 59 -
twenty four minutes past twelve
The colonel let's Charlie keep Bertha.
Molly not allowed to see Charlie and Tommo anymore because her parents think they are a bad influence.
Charlie and Molly write letters to each other through Tommo
"I want to see Charlie she cried, I miss him so much!" -
nearly five to one
Bertha gets shot by the Colonel and they burry her.
Big Joe goes missing.
Big Joe is found at the top of the church because he thinks that's where heaven is and wants to be with Bertha.
"I think Big Joe believes that Heaven is at the top of the church tower" pg 83 -
twenty eight minutes past one
They find out Molly is pregnant to Charlie
She gets kicked out of home
Charlie and Molly get married
Tommo sees the army recruitment officers and thinks that it would impress Molly to join up.
The old woman say "You aint a coward are you?"
The Colonel threatens to kick them out unless Charlie goes to war.
" They've thrown her out Charlie!" pg 90 -
fourteen minutes past two
They go to an army training camp in France called Etaples.
Tommo gets into the army pretending to be Charlies twin
They meet horrible Hanley a tyranical sargent.
"I'm Charlie Peaceful and he's Thomas Peaceful......
Charlie gets feild punishement -
one minute past three
Tommo meets girl in bar at Pop.
reconnisance mission goes wrong and Wilkie gets injured and goes to hospital. He gives Charlie his watch because he refused to let him die.
"no sir if one goes, we all go" pg 132. -
twenty five minutes past three
Lutenient Buckland takes charge of the regiment.
He speaks to the girl in Pop and finds out her name is Anna.
Charlie goes missing, after being shot in the foot and has to go home for treatment.
Horrible Hanley comes back.
"Our new Sargent, it's only Horrible bleedling Hanley from Etaples" pg 149 -
Five to five
Tommo is injured. Charlie defies the orders of Horrible Hanley to stay with the wounded Tommo despite the threat of execution. Charlie gives Tommo his (Wilkies) watch.
"I think i've cooked my goose good and proper this time Tommo" pg 173.
CHarlie is Court Martialed and sentenced to death by firing squad. "you'll tell them how it really was, won't you Tommo?" pg 177 -
Nearly four o'clock
Tommo breathes in mustard gas.
Tommo gets letter from Charlie and finds out Molly has had her baby and they have named him Tommo.
Tommo finds out Anna was killed by a Shell.
Charlie comes back
"My gas mask has come off but I have breathed in and I already know it's too late"
"Anna isn't in, Anna will never be in again. Anna is dead."
" I've known Anna only from having a few laughing words......since my fathers death" pg 163. -
One minute to six
Charlie is shot by the firing squad.
Tommo tells the reader how Charlie will die with his head held high and singing 'Oranges and Lemons'.
At six o'clock Tommo sings 'Oranges and Lemons' with Charlie.
"Ready, aim, fire"
"He closes his eyes and as he waits, he sings softly 'Oranges and Lemons' say the bells of Saint Clements" pg 184.
Tommo says goodbye to Charlie and his regiemnt is marched to The Somme.
