    The Sugar Act was a taxation on Molasses and sugar that was imported by the English colonists. Parliment, taxed the Colonists because the East India Company was failing and they British needed money to help them get back on their feet. They also taxed them because Britain needed to pay for their standing army.

    Committees of Correspondence
    The Committees of Correspondence was a committe founded by Samuel Adams. This committe was created so colonists, who were apart of the committe, could meet and they could talk about new ways to challenge British laws, and or taxes. After the colonists discused this they went and told other colonies about what they had discussed and so on and so forth until the word was spread. They made sure the word was spread around all thirteen colonies.
  • Stamp Act of 1765

    Stamp Act of 1765
    The Stamp Act of 1765 was another taxation placed on the colonists. However, this taxation was on paper goods. Whenever a colonists bought a legal document, a newspaper, playing cards, or anything else paper they had to pay for a stamp or seal on their paper item. This new act was enforced throught all the thirteen colonies. Despite this act being passed by Parliment, it was Prime Minister Grenville's idea. Lastly, this act was passed to help pay for thier standing army.

    This was a secret organization founded by Samuel Adams in Boston, Massachuttes. This secret society was open to all people who didn't like the British government. The Son's of Libertie's job was to unermine and destroy the british rule in the colonies by protesting the taxes. Their first protest was against the Stamp Act and they organized the Boston Tea Party.

    Townshend Act
    Charles Townshend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer (chief treasurer of the British Empire), thought of the idea to tax glass, paints, lead, tea, and paper and let the British use wrists of assistance. Tax collectors were now allowed to seach colonists homes and boats for smuggled goods. Thats what the wrists of assistance allowed As you can see, he got this act passed by parliamenent. This new act was enforced in every colony. They passed this act to better enforce their previous taxation.

    Boston Massacre
    The Boston Massacre was the killing of five english colonists by British Red Coats. This occured in boston, Massachusetts. This occured when the colonists started to protest the new taxation laws by throwing rocks and snowballs at the ones who enforced the laws, the British. Finally, the British retalliated and killed five english colonists.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The Tea Act was an act that put a higher taxation on tea. This act let the East India Company sell tea directly to the colonists to make more money. Parliamenent passed this new taxation because they need more money to help pay for their standing army and to help the East India Company make more money because they weren't doing so good in the sense of making money. In fact, they were in a bad financial time. This act was enforced throughout all thirteen colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The colonists didn't like the new Tea Act so the Son's of Liberty retalliated. On December 16, 1773, Son's of Liberty, dressed like Native Americans, snuck onto three boats and, at midnight, threw chests of tea into Boston Harbor. They threw off about three hundred-forty chests of tea. In todays standards all of that tea would cost over one million dollars. The colonists did this to protest unfair taxes.
  • Intolerable Acts

    After the Boston Tea Party occured the British were angry and decided to punish the colonists living in Boston. These punishmets included: Quartering or housing housing British soldiers, they closed Boston harbour until the colonists paid for the tea, and the Massachusetts charter was cancled. Other laws included: Quebec getting much of the colony, royal officials accused of a crime were sent to Britain to face a freindlier court and or judge, and Thomas Gage became the new governor of Mass.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
    This was a congress created by the colonists in which colonial leaders would meet and talk about their relationship with Britain. These leaders would meet at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia to discuss this. Georgia did not partake in this activity. Many people, such as Patrick Henery believed that violence was not avoidable. However, after long debates, they finally agreed to keep boycotting but still prepare for war.
