  • Battles at Fort Necessity

    Battles at Fort Necessity
    These were battles between the French and British. The British wanted to gain all of their land so they took over French land. Colonist Reaction: Nothing really.
  • Writs of Assistance

    Writs of Assistance
    A search warrant that enabled officials to search colonial homes, ships and buildings. Colonist Reaction: Angered because their privacy was being invaded.
  • Proclamation of 1763

    Proclamation of 1763
    British colonists could not settle west of the Appalachian Mountains because the Great Britain didn't want to provoke the Natives and start another war. Paying for militia during these wars was starting to add up. Colonist Reaction: Confused because it was their land.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    It placed duties, or taxes, on certain imports and halved the duty on foreign-made molasses. Colonist Reaction: Very upset.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This required colonists to purchase special paper stamped paper. It was a direct tax on paper items; newspapers, deeds, legal documents, playing cards, cigars, licenses, etc. It was also paid by all people, regardless of your economical status. Colonists Reaction: Stamp Act protests.
  • Quartering Act

    Quartering Act
    Colonists with extra space in their homes had to allow soldiers to live in that space. Colonists Reaction: Upset because their space was being invaded.
  • Stamp Act Congress

    Stamp Act Congress
    9 of 13 colonies created a petition to repeal the Stamp Act but the Parliament ignored it. Colonists Reaction: Angry because the petition was ignored.
  • Repeal of Stamp Act

    Repeal of Stamp Act
    The Parliament repealed the Stamp Act, but replaced it with the Declaratory Act. Colonists Reaction: More violent protests soon to come.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    This stated that the Parliament has the right to tax the Colonies. Colonists Reaction: Extremely angry.
  • Townshend Act/Duties

    Townshend Act/Duties
    A series of four acts placed in the colonies. It placed indirect taxes levied on imported materials. Along with a three-penny tax on tea. Colonists Reaction: Rage and organized resistance.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    This involved the death of five colonists, which turned into colonial propaganda. Colonists Reaction: Used it as propaganda and sparked more anger in other colonists.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This placed a tax on tea. Colonists Reaction: Boston Tea Party.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    Colonists dressed as Native Americans and dumped 343 chests of tea into the Atlantic Ocean. Colonists Reaction: They believed they were reaching across to Britian.
  • Intolerable Acts

    Intolerable Acts
    This put multiple restrictions on colonists including: closing of the Port of Boston, no town meetings and curfews. Colonists Reaction: First Continental Congress
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    The first official battle. A bloody retreat of British soldiers. Colonists Reaction: They armed themselves for war.
  • Battle of Bunker Hill

    Battle of Bunker Hill
    Another battle between colonists and Great Britain. Colonists had an uphill advantage but didn't have much ammo. This was a moral win for the Americas. Colonists Reaction: A moral withholding
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
    They readied the colonies for war, but hoped for peace. Designed the Olive Branch Petition. Colonists Reaction: Some wanted peace, some wanted war.
