The palette is of such importance that it wasn't allowed to leave its country. One of the reasons it is so important is because it is one of the few palettes to be discovered in a controlled excavation. The palette is crafted from this grayish-green siltstone and carved on it is King Namer. The carvings show scenes from the king's life, it's been up to interpretation on what the intent of the scene is. The common use of these palettes were for grinding and mixing cosmetics.
