The Powhatan Chiefdom is created.
In spring of 1607,the new settlers first encountered the Powhatan natives around the newly built town Jamestown.The chief of Jamestown is Chief Powhatan and his daughter Pocahontas.The Powhatan Chiefdom was made up of 30+ tribes with a population of about 14,000 people. -
John Smith captured by Powhatan Tribe.
Captain John Smith was captured by the Powhatan natives while traveling to Werowocomoco near where Chief Powhatan lived. A couple months later around the spring, John Smith was released. Powhatan sent foods to him as a sign of gratitude. -
The 1st Anglo-Powhatan war
The English fought against Algonquian speaking natives.Many conflicts happened between both sides which later intensified.The English reinforcements strikes by burning natives houses and executed innocent people. -
The English kidnap Pocahontas.
Captain Samuel Argall lured Pocahontas in a ship with copper kettle and kidnapped Pocahontas to enforce the return of stolen weapons and prisoners.He took Pocahontas to a swampy place he founded called Henricus. -
Pocahontas was Converted.
Pocahontas is baptized and converted into Christianity.Her name was changed while her time in England.She met a man named John Rolfe.He married Pocahontas with the blessing of her father (Chief Powhatan) and the governor. -
Pocahontas dies.
Pocahontas boards a ship with her Husband and son to Virginia.Pocahontas grew ill when the ship has gone as far Gravesend,England.She was rushed ashore where she died of Tuberculousis. -
Chief Powhatan dies.
Chief Powhatan died of natural causes in Virginia.His successor is his younger brother Opitchapam. -
The start 2nd Anglo-Powhatan war.
Opechancanough planned an attack on the English settlements in Jamestown killed roughly 400 people.The Natives thought the English would leave but it left many conflicts with the English for the next 10-12 years. -
Opechancanough is assassinated.
Royal Governor William Berkeley captured Opechancanough when he was around the age of 90-100 years old. The guard shoots Opechancanough in the back which kills him.This was the supposed end of the Powhatan Chiefdom. -
Treaties between Powhatan and the English.
The English made treaties to set up reservations in native territories.Much later in 1677, the English also set up a tribute that is supposed to happen yearly for the king.
