  • Sensorimotor Period

    Exploring the world via five senses and movement. Children experience object permanence and separation anxiety. Start developing linguistic structure (phonemes and morphemes) and language acquistion.

  • Preoperational Period

    2-7 years old. Children begin to experience animism, egocentrism, lack of conservation/reversability, and centration focus. They start to assimiliate objects, animals, and people. Their language acquisition becomes more advanced.
  • Concrete Operational Period

    7-12 years old. Children experience decreased centrism. They begin to use grouping, expereices, conversation, reversiblity, and accomodation to understand and assess the world around them. Accomodation is not assimilating objects, animals, and humans and actually differentuating between them.
  • Formal Operational Period

    12 years and beyond. Abstract thought, values, and theoretical thoughts begin to form. This is the final Piaget stage of cognitive development.
