  • Charles Darwin Attends Shrewsbury School

    Charles Darwin Attends Shrewsbury School
In September 1818 Charles Darwin's father sent him to the Shrewsbury School where he attended with his brother Erasmus. The Shrewsbury school was one of the original English public schools. Darwin and his brother made their own chemistry lab and would study on their own which is where Darwin found he loved studying science and experimenting. Despite this Darwin didn't like the school and how they decided to teach. Darwin was removed from the school by his father due to low grades.
  • Darwin Goes on the Beagle Voyage

Darwin Goes on the Beagle Voyage
Darwin set sail on the Beagle on December 27th 1831. His job was to be the ships naturalist. Darwin would go onto shore and discover new species of plants, animals, fossils and even other people. He noticed similarities and differences between animals in different places of the world and this helped him in his studies and future theories on natural selection and evolution. This voyage took about five years.
  • Darwin Publishes "On the Origin of Species"

Darwin Publishes "On the Origin of Species"
On November 11th 1859 Darwin published his book "On the Origin of Species". This book published his theories of natural selection and evolution. This helped explain fossils found and discoveries that were made during Darwins voyage on the Beagle. Darwin waited a long time to publish this book so he could make sure he had enough information to justify what was written and avoid public rejection of his ideas. youtube. This video explains the theme of Darwin's book.
  • Darwin Publishes "The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex"

Darwin Publishes "The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex"
Darwin published "The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex" on February 24th, 1871. This book was also controversial for challenging religious theories and theories of the Earth that they had so far. The book went into evolutionary theories and how humans behaved and, of course, the relation of sex. This book helped show that humans are just like other animals, just more evolved. This challenged the idea that God created humans and they appeared on the Earth as they are.
  • Kuhn Becomes the Teacher

    Kuhn Becomes the Teacher
Kuhn went to school at Harvard University where he received his bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. His bachelors and masters degrees were in physics and his Ph.D was in the history of science. After obtaining his degrees Kuhn decided to begin teaching. He taught at three different schools: Harvard in 1951-1956, Princeton from 1964-1979, and Berkley during 1956-1964. He taught philosophy of science.
  • Kuhn writes "The Copernican Revolution"

    Kuhn writes "The Copernican Revolution"
In 1957 "The Copernican Revolution" was published. In this book Kuhn explained the significance of the development of the heliocentric theory. He described the change from the earth being the center of the universe to the sun being the center as a paradigm shift and how that affected not only astronomy but how we viewed scientific theories. Kuhn would go more into paradigm shifts in his next book.
  • "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" is Published

"The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" is Published
Timetoast In 1962 Kuhn published "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions". In this book Kuhn talked about his theory of paradigm shifts. Paradigms can be described as concepts or theories. Paradigms are usually built off of one another which result in the paradigm shifts when a new theory is developed that is stronger than the original. This book helped change the way we viewed the history of science. This video helps explain that in further detail.
  • Kuhn dies

    Kuhn dies
Thomas Kuhn died on June 17th 1996 due to cancer. Kuhn was continuing this work up until his death. He developed the concept of incommensurability and was working on another study of scientific change.
