  • Paul Feyerabend (1924-1994) Epistemological Anarchism

Feyerabend argued his most famous concept of epistemological anarchism in his work Against Methods (1975). This concept means that a person "is opposed to all systems of rules and constraints in science" (Godfrey-Smith, 2003). Essentially, anything that can bind creativity limits the capabilities for discovery in science.
  • Paul Feyerabend (1924-1994) Ideals and Knowledge

Feyerabend rejected ideals of certainty due to his belief that humans shape our knowledge to fit our ideals. He strictly believed that realism was the only way that science would ever progress due to its honesty and testability.
Similarly, Feyerabend believed "we should decisively reject the ideal of certainty and opt instead for theories which go beyond experience and say something informative about reality" (Preston, 1997).
  • Paul Feyerabend (1924-1994) Language

Feyerabend was greatly concerned with the linguistic structure of theories and how our perception of language affects our interpretation of science. He proposed that there was no "scientific language" that was separate from "everyday language" and supplemented the idea saying that changes in theory won't affect the language used to describe them (Preston,1997).
