  • (1600s - 1700s) Redi Tests Biogenesis

    (1600s - 1700s) Redi Tests Biogenesis
Redi collects two pieces of meat, two jars, and one piece of net to cover the top of a jar. He sticks one piece of meat in eac jar and on one of the jars he puts net on top to close off the jar. In his experiment he realizes and proves that flies don't come from meat, it was flies going in and planting their eggs.

  • (1700s - 1800s) Spallanzani creates an experiment testing spontaneous generation

(1700s - 1800s) Spallanzani creates an experiment testing spontaneous generation
Spallanzani boiled two beakers of broth believing that boiling the broth would kill any organisms that tried to enter. After boiling the beakers he sealed one and left the other open. After just a couple short days the open bottle had organisms living in it that he could observe with the microscope but the sealed one had no living life in it. The scientists of his day said that it didn't prove anything because air was neccesary for spontaneous generation.
