    Pepsi was created in 1893 by pharmacist Caleb Bradham. From 1898 to the 1940s, Pepsi's logo was similar to Coca-Cola's swirly red script. However, they may not have been trying to copy Coca-Cola. Script was a popular logo type at the time and an effective way of branding.

    Versions of the Original
    Between 1989 and 1940 Pepsi underwent a series of minor tweaks in its' original design. These changes complicated the original design and weren't very effective. None of them lasted very long and a new logo was introduced in 1940.
  • Bottling Pepsi

    When Pepsi followed the trend of bottling sodas in 1906. This is when they developed the classic red white and blue patriotic theme. This sense of patriotism in branding was common at the time. They also made the words bigger and more smooth. They also put their slogan, "Pour your own with the perfect mixer" on some of their bottles.

    In 1941 Pepsi focused even more on their patriotic theme to support the WWII effort of the time. They also simplified their logo more getting rid of some of the curlicues.
  • "New Generation" Campaign

    "New Generation" Campaign
    In 1962 Pepsi changed it's logo again. The logo lost the word cola and it's script font. It featured a bottle cap and still had the same patriotic colors. The new modern logo went along with Pepsi's campaign at the time "New Generation". Pepsi was making an appeal to younger people using celebrities such as Micheal Jackson in its' commercials. To fit this campaign it also updated its logo.
  • Minimalist Design

    In 1973 it was time to update Pepsi's logo again. The new design was more minimalist and looked more similar to the logo we're familiar with today. With a simple geometric design and bright bold letters,​ the new logo was effective and simple enough to remember.
  • Tweaked Again

    Tweaked Again
    In 1991 the logo was tweaked once again. This time Pepsi stuck with the minimalist design but italicized the letters. This was effective because it stayed true to the brand by paying homage to the script letters but kept the modern feel.
  • 3D Logo

    3D Logo
    In 1998 Pepsi started to use a 3D logo. The logo popped out and was very bold. The 3D design looked current and futuristic. They still used the original color scheme and italicized letters.
  • Refreshing Logo

    In 2005 The 3D theme was continued but made slightly more complex. Detail was added to the logo making it look even more 3D and lifelike. Realistic water droplets were also added to the logo making it look lifelike and​ refreshing. Pepsi continued to use the Italicized letters.
  • Current Logo

    Current Logo
    Pepsi's current logo is more like the simplistic logo from the 60s and 70s. It still has the original color scheme from the 40s. And although it's no long italicized it still pays homage to the script font with curly letters.
