    Japan had been at war with China for quite some time. The problem was that Japan was using all of its resources while fighting against China. The majority of Japan's resources were coming from the United States, especially oil.

    At this point Japan had captured Manchuria and five other parts of Northern China. The United States did not approve of Japan's aggression towards China, so they declared an embargo. In other words, they stopped supplying Japan with resources. This angered Japan and forced them to search for a place that could supply them with resources, in which they located a place in the Philippines. Knowing that the United States would go to war if they attacked the Philippines, Japan planned to attack first

    Admiral Yamamoto of Japan begins to communicate with other officials about a possible attack on Pearl Harbor, right on the coast of Hawaii. The United States ambassador of Japan, Joseph C. Grew finds out about the possible attack and notifies Washington D.C. Nobody believes the information, and says that Japan would only attack the Philippines if war broke out.

    United States intelligence officers begin to monitor Japanese secret messages by using a program called Magic. The United States would use a machine to decode when Japan would dispatch.

Throughout the rest of the summer, Admiral Yamamoto trains his forces and finalizes the the planning of the atack on Pearl Harbor.

    Day of Attack
    The first wave of Japanese aircraft begin attacking the coast of Pearl Harbor early on a Sunday morning. The Japanese immediately start destroying everything in sight. Building are destroyed, ships are sunk, and hundreds of innocent people are annihilated. The attack continued for 2 hours and 20 minutes. In the end, 2,402 people were killed, 1,282 were wounded, 4 battleships were sunk, 2 destroyers sunk, 11 ships damaged, 188 aircraft destroyed, and 155 damaged.
