Another sort of settlers came from Germany these were Lutheran Missionaries, they tried to teach the Anangu tribes the Christian Religion.

After the First World War, things started to move quicker. In 1921 all the town was excited to see the first aeroplane land. In 1926 Dr John Flynn set up a hospital in town

After a major drought, Anangu continued to be squashed out of their country. They feared an attack of police or pastoralists.

In 1960, a school opened in Papunya, in those days, kids had to shower and change into uniforms. At the end of the day children put their camp clothes on again.

After years at Papunya, many Anangu were keen to move. Over the years people moved outwards and lived in outstations, a health worker from Papunya visited every week.

In the 1980s, Papunya developed as Anangu took more control over their country. In the 1990s, Papunya hit Newspaper headlines. The first battle for Aborigines rights became known as the Power Dispute.

In the last years of the twentieth century, Papunya school became stronger as Anangu and European followed the way of learning in Vision Painting.
