    Panama was a province of colombian territory. In cash Rossevelt told colombia he will pay them $10 million and for rent he will give them $250,000 yearly so U.S can build the canal. U.S agreed to buy rights to the canal property and equipment for not to exceed the $40 million.

    To support the rebels a lot of gunboats from the U.S were just sitting in the harbor. Lots of Americans were warned by Theodore Roosevelt while criticizing his gunboats.

    Three days later a guy was acting for Panama, he was French and he signed a treaty saying that U.S has permanent use and they have the right to control 10 mile wide zone across the Isthmus of Panama. That started the building of the Canal.

    The Canal was being built. It was hard building the Canal with earthquakes and other dangerous things happeining. The fact that the people were getting sick that was hard too because if they were sick they couldn't build the Canal.

    Panama Canal Video Roosevelt decided to visit the Panama Canal to see what was going on because the Canal wasn't close to being done. Everyday men died so they had to kep bringing more men to help build the Canal. Carlos Juan Finlay and Roland Ross found out the diseases were carried by mosquitoes. Workers cleared were mosquitoes lived , they brushed and drained swamps. William Gorgas had people check a dead person lying on the table and he ended up being the last person with yellow fever.

    The Panama Canal was opened and everyone noticed. German troops were driving acroos Belgium towards Paris and they wrote about the Panama Canal on the back of their pages.
