    Why they formed an alliance.
    Was an alliance formed between Russia, France, and Britain. It was an extention of the Anglo-Russian Entente that was created in 1907 to counterbalance the growing strength of the Triple Alliance of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy and their empires.
  • Austria-Hungary Takes Control of Bosnia

    Also known as The Bosnian Crisis of 1908–1909. This started when Austria-Hungary announced the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In April 1909 the Treaty of Berlin was amended to accept the new status bringing the crisis to an end but the crisis permanently damaged relations between Austria-Hungary in one hand and on the other hand Russia and the Kingdom of Serbia.

    Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were shot dead in Sarajevo, by Gavrilo Princip who was in a group of assassins coordinated by Danilo Ilić.

    The picture that I chose for this event Is a library that the German burned while going though. This is a note worthy event because it forces Belgium to break its neutrality that had been guaranteed by the Treaty of London in 1839 which had been signed by Prussia. This even is also called "The Rape of Belgium" for violating its neutralilty.
  • A German U-Boat Sinks the Lusitania

    U-Boats Sink the Lusitania in 1915
    Was hit approximately 14 miles off the coast of Southern Ireland at Old Head of Kinsale by the German U-20. The ship was hit by the right side and was rocked by to explosions. Germans claim to have only hit the boat once. Whatever the second exploision was it caused the ship to sink within 18 minutes.

  • The Zimmerman Note is Discovered

    German Foreign Minister Zimmermann sent the German Minister in Mexico an enciphered message with a proposal to be presented to the Mexican government. Zimmermann proposed a German-Mexican alliance, with the payoff being Mexico's recovery. British intelligence intercepted and deciphered the message and turned it over to the Americans on 24 February. Publication of the message raised considerable anger in the United States.

    The only country against which the United States has declared war more than once is Germany. Now and later on in WWII. After the United States entered the war it ended very quickly after pushing Germany's forces back. It was an easy victory, seeing as Germany had already been fighting for 3 years and becasue of our more than notable military force.
