    The Countryside Code is designed to imform and encourage people to look after the countryside.
  • Kinder Trespass.

    This mass trepass was undertaken to highlight that walkers in England and Wales were denied access to areas of open country. This lead to the Natianl Parks and Access tot eh Countryside Acr and the Countryside and Rights of Way Act.
  • John Dewey pioneered the importance of experintial education.

    This provides guidence on imporatnce of learning through experience rather than reading and writing.
  • First UK Outward Bound Centre, Wales

    Open by Kurt Khan, Outdoor Bound was the first outdoor education organisation. Outward Bound programs aim to foster the personal growth and social skills of participants by using challenging expeditions in the outdoors. Outward Bound's founding mission was to give young seamen the ability to survive harsh conditions at sea.
  • National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act

    The Act provided the framework for the creation of National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales, and also addressed public rights of way and access to open land. This was a result of the Kinder Tresspass
  • Countryside Commission established

    This was established by the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 to co-ordinate government activity in relation to National Parks
  • Second UK Outward Bound Centre, Eskdale

    The second UK Outward Bound Centre opened in 1950 in Eskdale, which shows it is popular and growing massivley in a short space of time.

    The Peak District is an upland area in central and northern England, which became the first National Park in the UK
  • Kurt Hahn founded the DofE

    The DofE is an award given for completing a programme of activities that can be undertaken by anyone aged 14 to 24, which encourages people to undertake services to individuals or the community, improve in an area of sport, develop practical and social skills and personal interests and plan, train for and complete an adventurous journey in the UK or abroad.
  • Kenneth Oldham conducted outdoor education for children and wrote the first guide to the Pennine Way

    Kenneth Oldham was one of the first people who was dedicated in providing outdoor eductaion for children, as he found experiential learning very beneficial. The guide to the Pennine Way he wrote showed all routes and the difficulty of these routes which made it more accesible for people as they know what to expect.
  • Outward Bound goes the USA

    This is significant as it shows that Outward Bound was becoming increasingly popular and it had grown massively as it went overseas.
  • MLTB founded

    The Mountain Leader Training Board run courses so people can qualify in being a leader so they areable to take people mountian walking.

    The completion of the Pennie Way was signifaicant as it was the first public path the ran through the countryside.

  • Lyme Bay Tragedy

    The Lyme Bay Tradgedy, in which 4 teenagers died in a kayaking accident, led to the legislation to regulate adventure activities centres working with young people in the UK and led to the creation of the AALA
  • Activity Centre Act created

    This is the law that says you have to stick to the rules that AALA have put in plakce.

    This is the licensing authority for outdoor activity centres for young people in Great Britain, it overseas every aspect of outdoor education in the country.

    This is signifact as it shows the growth of Outdoor Education.
  • Countryside Agency formed (Countryside Comminssion and Rural Development Commission merged)

    This was set up to improving the quality of the rural environment and the lives of those living in it.
  • Countryside and Rights Of Way Act of 2000 secured walkers' rights over common land and open country

    This is offered by the MLTB, which trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead groups, so they are able to become a leader in mountain walking.

    This raised awarness that leaders should always follow the published guidance and follow the rules of legislations.
    it also raised awarenss that schools need to have effective management systems to prevent unsuitable leaders taking young people into hazardous environments.
  • UK Lottery funds a major Summer Camp porgramme for every UK child to haveat least one week long Outdoor Education camp

    This provides more opportyunites for people to particpate in Outdoor Activities Summer Camps have been set up and funded by the lottery to allow children to particpate, which could make outdoor education more popular.
  • Lord Adonis' manifesto, pledges one major Outdoor Education trip per pupil whilst at school

    Lord Adonis said that all children should have the chance to go on one outdoor education trip while at school. He stated that the paper work wasnt as diffificult and that the activities werent as dangerous as as people thought. However this backfired, as two weeks later a boy died during potholing on a school trip.
