Captain F Hasselbrough's ship "Preserverance" set sail for Campbell Island, but got off course due to husky wind and foggy mist. He sighted unknown land on his charts on June 11th and named it Macquarie Island (Ella and Pham).

Macquarie Island is being hit by multiple earthquakes because of multiple tectonic plates being moved causing tidal waves crashing onto the mountains and eroding/destroying them (Brian and William).
  • 1820

Many gangs have arrived on Macquarie Island. The gangs are consuming more portions of birds and the flippers of the elephants seals. Now the gangs are using the blubber of the sea elephants as a heat source (Ava and Leo).

There are currently many rabbits on Macquarie Island and people are using them as a source of food as many of the ships have not arrived on time and supplies are low. Sailor's clothes are thin and wet and many sailors covered their huts with sea elephant skin and plants to prevent the wind from coming in (Jiya and Ricky).

  • 1988

Humans have caught the last of the wekas and have trapped many cats as part of an eradication program The Government funded this program because these feral animals were killing the natural animals from Macquarie Island. Unfortunately, hundreds of feral animals still live on Macquarie Island (Ethan).

Tourists are coming to visit the island. Under strict quarantine regulations, they have travelled through a bath of disinfectant and must have their pockets cleaned for seeds before coming ashore. The tourists observe the stations and view the wildlife and habitats of Sandy Bay (Ethan).

Steve Austin and his dogs Katie, Gus and Ricco eradicated the last rabbits on Macquarie Island since these pests were consuming the megaherbs that were preventing erosion and harmful landslides. This was achieved by training the dogs to detect the remaining rabbits so they could be humanely removed by their owners (5S).
