    In 1838 nearly 125,000 Native Americans lived on millions of acres of land in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and Florida. That their ancestors occupied and cultivated for generations.
    But the White Settlers wanted to grow cotton on the Indians land, so the Government forced them from their land to a specially designated "Indian Territory". across the Mississippi. It was a difficult and sometimes deadly journey.

    The Oklahoma land rush was like a race to get your own land. They would shoot the cannon off and you would race out and find a flag that wasn't taken and place your flag there and that would be your land. This is where the people that live in the in the state got their name.
    If you left early or snuck out before everyone you were called a sooner.

    Dust Bowl

    The Dust Bowl was a series of severe dust storms that damaged land in the US prairies. 150,000 square mile area in Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, and other neighboring states were affected.Recurring storms choked cattle and drove 60% of the population from the region.
    The Government paid to leave fields idle. They did crop rotation and replanted native prairie grasses. They also bought more than 10 million acres and converted some of the land back to grasslands.

    Thorpe entered the the 1912 Olympics for both the Pentathlon and the Decathlon and got gold in both.Thorpe also played football, baseball, and basketball. He is said to be one of the greatest athletes ever.

    On the 19th on April 1995 a truck bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City left 168 dead and hundreds more injured. The blast was set off by anti-government militant Timothy Mcveigh. The bombing was the worst terrorist before 9/11.
