    This was the decade where modern music came to life. With the recording industry and record labels just beginning, artist were able to share their talent with a larger audience, rather then on sheet paper and live shows as before.Jazz/Blues Musicians,and Broadway Stars where very popular and gave this decade the name "The Roaring 20's". The 20's was also known as the jazz decade with New Orleans was a prime area. Jazz has impacted that community so much, they still celebrate jazz till this day.

    Although the great depression influenced many factors, the music industry fought trough it. As the radio became a more popular good, music industry's started to keep track of sales. In 1935, the radio station "Your Hit Parade" debuted and began to play hit songs if the week. This was also when Billboard magazine began to record and published hit songs of the time. Popular Swing Musicians( Ex.Benny Goodman), and Popular Crooners (Ex. Bing Crosby,) were popular in the Thirties.

    Music has changed significantly over the years and has gone through many phases. The 1940's was primarily a time of Jazz, Blues and Swing. This music was often based around love or a specific person and was happy and romantic.

With the popular music at the time being, Motown/R&B, Surf Rock, Roots Rock, Hard Rock, Folk Rock, Protest Music, and Acapella, it is clear to see that there was a lot to choose from at the time. The "British Invasion" also occurred in the mid 1960's were a large amount of British singer and bands found mainstream success wordwide.

    The 1970's was composed of calm, relaxing and dancebale music. This is due to the people wanting to escape the fighting and problems of the 1960's and sought a refuge in dance clubs and other enjoyable places. Music genres in this decade include Disco/Club, Progressive Rock, Punk Rock/New Wave, and Funk & Soul. Although, the 1970 did not create any innovations in music styles, but it did do a good job in combining the hippie and yuppie lifestyle.

    The 1980's was the decade of fashion, hair, blockbuster movies and by far music. The 80's was filled with different types of music, such as Pop, Hip Hop/Rap, New Wave and most popular Hair Metal. Hair Metal included artists such as Guns N Roses, Bon Jovi and Twisted Sisters. Within this decade, MTV (Music Television) was also created and allowed artists to share their music videos with everyone.

    Through the 90's, the ways we communicate really changed. With the 1990's being known as the electronic age, many artists became world known much faster. With music genres such as teen pop, electronic dance, hip hop and alternative rock there was something for almost everyone. Singers such Gwen Stefani, and Vanilla Ice were popular, but boy bands was also a craze. Popular boys bands included NSYNC, and Backstreet Boys.

    Hip hop, rap and pop music quickly took over the 2000's. Artists such as Eminem, Beyonce, 50 Cent and Britney Spears were some of the major and most popular at the time. This was also the decade where many of the artists we listen to had their big break.
