  • Obesity Rate

    in 1962 only 13% percent of Americans were considered to be obese
  • The Beginning

    High Fructose-Glucose sweetener is first introduced to the food and beverage industry in the 1970’s, and is used in most foods and beverages on a regular basis by 1975.
  • Nutrition Labeling and Education Act

    Nutrition Labeling and Education Act of 1990 “Requires nutrition labeling on most foods regulated by Agency and all nutrient content claims and health claims be consistent with agency regulations. Went into effect on May 8th 1993
  • BMI Changes

    On June 17th 1998 a new BMI was released for the US. Under these guidelines anyone over a BMI of 25-29.9 are considered overweight, and over 30.0 BMI are considered obese. This made many Americans that were not considered to be overweight were now on that side of the scale.
  • Divorce

    Through out the year the divorce rates have also increased along side of the obesity rates.
  • The New Numbers

    In 2002 it was recorded from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys that 16.3% of Americans were overweight
  • Adult Rate

    About 9.8% of Americans were considered to be obese
  • 2008 Statistic

    In 2008 the statstics showed that 1.4 billion adults are considered overweight in the World and that half a billion adults were considered obese. There was also a statistic that said 2.8 million people died world wide due to an issue dealing with obesity
  • Children Rates

    The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2010. The percentage of kids aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to 18% over the same time period
  • US Rates

    Obesity in the U.S. was 35.7% in adults and 17% in children
  • Federal Menu Labeling LAw

    In 2011 Obama proposed Federal Menu Labeling Laws to promote caloric intake knowledge on all fast food and vending machines in the US. Which made it so fast food places had to show the amount of calories on their menu.
  • MyPlate

    MyPlate replaces replaces the USDA food pyramid as a way to try and take a step in reducing obesity.
  • Rates in US

    The obesity rates in America are down to 34,9% in females and 33.5% in males
  • Children Rates in US

    In female children ranging from 2-19 the obesity rate is 17.2% and the rate for males ranging from 2-19 is 16.7.
