In the middle of the night, the Nazis search Annemarie's house and question them about Ellen. They pretend Ellen is Annemarie's dead sister and keep her from getting taken.

In order to escape Nazi detection, Annemarie and her family take Ellen to Uncle Henrik's.

Annemarie's family moves the furniture to prepare for a funeral for Great-aunt Birte, a relative who doesn't exist.

Uncle Henrik goes to the boat, and returns with Ellen's parents.

The Nazis come to Uncle Henrik's because of the gathering of people. When they ask to be shown dead Great-aunt Birte's body as proof, Annemarie's mom tells them she died of typhus, and they slap her and leave.

Annemarie finds the package that Mr. Rosen dropped, that contains a handkerchief soaked in chemicals to keep the Nazis' dogs from smelling the stowaway Jews. She runs to get it there in time, and saves the Rosens and other Jews' lives.

Germany surrenders to Denmark. The Danish people celebrate and Annemarie waits for Ellen to return.

Annemaire learns that her sister Lise was shot by the Nazis for being a part of the Danish resistance.
