  • US drops the Atomic Bomb

    These are images of World War II on August 6, 1945- when the U.S. dropped the Atomic Bomb on Japan which lead to the conclusion of the Second World War.
  • The Day Rosa Parks was arrested

    Rosa Parks did not intend to get arrested as she made her way home from work on December 1, 1955. Little did the 42-year-old seamstress know that an act of hers soon would make her a pivotal symbol of the civil rights movement and help end segregation laws in the South. That evening after work, Parks took a seat in the front of the black section of a city bus in Montgomery, Alabama. The bus filled up, and the bus driver demanded that she move so a white male passenger could have her seat.
  • Cuban Missile Crisis

    The Soviet Union was desperately behind the United States in the arms race. Soviet missiles were only powerful enough to be launched against Europe but U.S. missiles were capable of striking the entire Soviet Union. In late April 1962, Soviets conceived the idea of placing intermediate-range missiles in Cuba. Placing Missiles in Cuba would decrease the odds of being over powered by the US.
  • John F. Kennedy was assassinated

    President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, in Dallas,he was struck by two bullets — one in the head, one in the neck — while riding in an open-topped limo through Dealey Plaza in Dallas. Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with killing him, and a presidential commission headed by Chief Justice Earl Warren found that Oswald acted alone.
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

    After his death in 1968 there were 5 days of race riots in Washington Dc, turning the city to complete mayhem. To this day Washington Dc is still recovering from the effects of his assassination and his legacy is still felt. Even today we see Martin Luther King’s memorial looking out on the Potomac where he gave his famous “I Have a Dream Speech”.
  • Apollo 11

    The Apollo 11 later becomes the first manned mission to land on the Moon. The first steps to be taken by humans on another planetary body were taken by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969.
  • AIDS Rawarness Day

    After the reconition of AIDS several public health successes were achieved. Disease-monitoring systems were established following the first reports in 1981. There have been so many advances in how people are not only, treated for this disease but many advances to prevent the disease from happening in all.
  • The Challenger Explosion

    7 astonauts were killed when the space shuttle challenger exploded 74 seconds after tkae off. It was later discovered that the explosion was caused by the degradation of a corroded O-ring, technichians were aware of teh situation before the shuttle was launched. It was the first time the US lost an astronaut in flight. Christa McAuliffe, wo was on the shuttel, was the first teacher in space and NASA arranged for numberous public schools to watch this live.
  • O.J Simpson Trial

    The O. J. Simpson murder case was a criminal trial held in Los Angeles County, California Superior Court that spanned from the primary jury being sworn in on November 2, 1994 to opening statements on January 24, 1995 to a verdict on October 3, 1995.
  • The War on Terror begins

    9/11 was the beginning of the “War on Terror”. The War on Terror (also known as the Global War on Terrorism) is a term commonly applied to an international military campaign which started as a result of the 9/11. This resulted in a military campaign to eliminate all al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations. The United Kingdom and many other NATO and non-NATO nations participated in the conflict.
  • Hurricane Katarina

    From the Gulf states (principally Louisiana and Mississippi), the loss of life is unknown but will likely reach well into the hundreds and possibly higher. It is clearly one of the most devastating natural disasters in recent US history. From Katrina's first landfall in Florida, while it was at category one strength, initial estimates suggest 11 deaths resulted.
  • The Election of the Barack Obama

    He was the first African American in history to be nominated on a major party ticket. On August 23, 2008, Barack Obama's campaign announced that Senator Joe Biden of Delaware would be the Vice Presidential nominee.
  • Micheal Jackson Died

    On June 25, 2009 American recording artist and entertainer Michael Jackson died of acute propofol and benzodiazepine intoxication after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home on North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles.
  • Osama Bin was assassinated

    Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden was the founder of al Qaeda, the jihadist organization that claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks on the United States, along with numerous others.
