  • Before Salvation Amry

William Booth abandoned the traditional church platform soon after commencing his preaching career in England in 1852 in favor of taking the gospel of Jesus Christ straight to the people. He ministered to the poor, the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute while walking the streets of London.
  • The Movement

William Booth launched the movement in London, England in 1865. He toured the streets of the city, eager to introduce the poor, the hungry, the homeless, and the impoverished to Christ's teachings. His reputation as a religious leader extended throughout London, and he drew followers who were committed to the salvation of men and women's souls. The 'salvationists" philosophy and beliefs expanded to many countries around the world because they were modeled after a paramilitary command structure.

  • Around the World

Converts became soldiers of Christ from that point forward, and they were known as Salvationists back then, as they are now. Between 1881 and 1885, they mounted an offensive across the British Isles that converted 250,000 Christians despite violence and persecution. Their message quickly gained traction in the United States, followed by Canada, Australia, France, Switzerland, India, South Africa, Iceland, and Germany.
