  • Agricultural Adjustment Act

    Agricultural Adjustment Act
    This act was made to help farmers and raise crop prices, by paying farmers to make food scarce.The government paid some farmers millions to reduced their crop production to a set number.The government passed this act and it also created the Agricultural Adjustment Administration.The policy upset many and congress banned the act in 1936 but a new AAA was created in 1938.
  • Home Owners Loan Corporation

    Home Owners Loan Corporation
    This coroporation was established, from the Home Owners' Loan Act, to loan money to homeowners who couldn't meet mortgage payments. The corporation was set up with $200million, with a goal to prevent morgage forclosures. This changed the mortgage system and provided a percent of insured loans from Federal Housing Authority. The HOLC ran out of bonds in 1935 but was still around until 1951 to collect previous mortgages.
  • Federal Housing Administration

    Federal Housing Administration
    FHA was created by the National Housing Act of 1934, to insure loans for building and repairing homes. It changed home ownership and created the current financial mortgage system used today. The goal of the administration was to improve housing standards and conditions. The administration also helped finance military housing for veterans after the war in the 1940s. After its creation it has insured millions of home owners.

    Securities and Exchange Commission
    Created from the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, to monitor the stock market and enfore laws for the sale of stocks and bonds. This commission was successful by insuring that peoples saving deposits would be safe. This is still used to today to maintain fair and orderly markets.

    Social Security Act
    The act was one of the most important achievements of the New Deal. The act created the Social Security system, and had three significant parts. Retired workers now recieved pensions, an unemployment compensation system was created, and aid to families with dependent children/people with disabilities were provided. Benefits were provided to millions of Americans during the Great Depression. The SSA helped to create many new programs and laws that are used today.

    Works Progress Administration
    The administration was designed, by Congress, to create as many jobs as possible and quickly. The WPA spent $11 billion in less than 10 years to give millions jobs. The program left an positive impact on the nation and gave people a sense of purpose. The WPA ended in 1943 because of worker shortage during WWII.
  • Rural Electrification Administration

    Rural Electrification Administration
    The REA was established, by the Rural Electrification Act, to provid cheap electricity for isolated rural areas. Most urban areas did have electricity when this act was created, but the rural areas suffered in lack of electricity. The number of homes with electricity in rural areas increased to about 25 percent in the 1930s.The REA is still used but under a new name of RUS from the Department of Agriculture Reorganization Act of 1994.

    National Youth Administration
    The NYA was created, by the Reorganization Act, to address the problem of the number of unemployment and depressed youth. The NYA gave aid to high school, college, and graduate students. The administration provided part-time employment to more than two million college and high school students.The program was succesful, but because of the costs of war, Congress abolished the program in 1943.
  • Wagner Act

    Wagner Act
    The goal of this act was to define unfair labor practices and it did establish the National Labor Relations Board. The NLRB settled disputes betweeen employers and employees. Before employees were now allowed to organize trade unions and practice collective bargaining. This act helped to deal with many strikes and issues during the Great Depression. The Wagner act still plays a part in todays society when dealing with union issues.

    Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act
    Made to create regulations to protect the public from potential dangers of foods, drugs, and cosmetics. This act required manufactures to list ingredients in food, drugs, and cosmetic products. The act insured safety to the public and is still used today. It also ended up creating the FDA.
