    Beginning of the first New Deal
    The Great Depression was at an all time high and President Franklin Roosevelt was just elected. Roosevelt delivered his first inaugural address to 100,000 people on Washington's capitol Plaza. He stated that he firmly believed that they should "wage a war against the emergency" and gave the people confidence. This was a relief effort.
  • Emergency Banking Act

    Shortly after his inaugural address, Roosevelt passed the Emergency Banking Act. This act basically reorganized the banks and closed the ones that were insolvent. The purpose of this act was an effort to recover.(First new Deal)
  • The Fireside Chat(The First 100 Days)

    The Fireside Chat(The First 100 Days)
    Roosevelt talked urged Americans to put their savings in the banks which later re opened 3/4 of the accounts. His quest to end the Depression kicked off the next 100 days. He made it legal for americans to buy alcohol again and ratified the 21'st amendment. Ending prohibition. It was a reform effort.

    Banking Act of 1933
    The act separated commercial and investment banking. This led to the creation of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or the FDIC. The FDIC did many things such as: insure bank deposits, curb bank runs, and reduce the number of bank failures. This was a reform effort
  • National Industrial Recovery Act

    National Industrial Recovery Act
    This act regulated certain business activities that were ultimately ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Also created the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works or Public Works Administrations(PWA). The PWA would contribute billions for infrastructure projects all across the nation. This was a Relief and Reform effort.

    Despite Roosevelt's efforts to stop the Depression, it continued. People became more desperate and angry over time so Roosevelt launched a more aggressive series of federal programs. This created the Work Progress Administration(WPA) which help provide people with jobs. Reform Effort
  • Soil Conservation Act

    Soil Conservation Act
    The Soil Conversation Act was signed by President Roosevelt and created the Soil Conservation Service(SCS). This agency helped preserve America's agricultural land from erosion and overuse.
  • Work Progress Administration(WPA)

    Work Progress Administration(WPA)
    The WPA was created from the authority of the Emergency Relief Appropriation Act of 1935. It helped provide jobs for many unemployed Americans to bring electric power to rural areas.
  • Wagner Act

    Also known as the National Labor Relations Act, this act helps the labor's ability to unionize and make labor less violent over time. This was administrated by the National Labor Relations Board(NLRB). This was a relief effort.
  • Social Security Act

    Social Security Act
    This act created an old age pension system and other social safety net programs that have been a rock of economic security for Americans.
