New Deal Policies

  • Emergency Banking Relief Act

    Emergency Banking Relief Act
    This act was created to complete the process of reopening the individual banks as seen fit during the First New Deal time. This was a relief effort as it took immediate control to reopen the banks in America.
  • The Civilian Conservation Corporation

    The Civilian Conservation Corporation
    This reform effort was an organisation that employed the young unmarried men who needed to do service projects around the country. Such projects included planting trees and they, in fact, planted over 3 billion trees and became know as Roosevelt's "Tree Army." This occurred during the First New Deal period.
  • Agricultural Adjustment Act

    The AAA was put in place May 12, 1933 as a part of the the First New Deal. Farmers were bribed and requested to limit their production on certain crops in hopes of helping the economy recover.
  • Glass-Steagall Banking Act

    Glass-Steagall Banking Act
    This was a reform effort during the First New Deal period to stop the commercial bank officials from borrowing unnecessary amounts of money from their own banks and the investment banks from using their power to possess controlled interest in retail banks. In other words it separated the investment banks from commercial banks.
  • National Industrial Recovery Act

    The NIRA was a part of the First New Deal and granted authority to the President in overseeing industries to ensure fair wages. It was hoped this recovery effort would stimulate the country's economic recovery.
  • Securities and Exchange Commision

    Securities and Exchange Commision
    The SEC was established on June 6, 1934 and was what protected the investors and capital in overseeing the stock market. Being a part of the First New Deal, this reform act also participated in enforcing the federal security laws.
  • National Housing Act

    National Housing Act
    This act was a reform effort, signed in by President Roosevelt on June 27, 1934, during the First New Deal, and provided Americans with better living conditions and made houses more affordable, the houses and the mortgages. It also was created to reduce the foreclosure rate since many people could no longer afford their homes during the Great Depression. By making the new homes in the US more affordable, another event like the Great Depression would't be as detrimental in the housing department.
  • Resettlement Administration

    Resettlement Administration
    The Great Depression was accompanied by the Dust Bowl which blew dust everywhere, farming was impossible, and poor families became even poorer. This reform effort was put in effect in May of 1935 to relocate the poor families in America to better living conditions, administer projects with natural resources throughout the country. One of the administrations in the Second New Deal, it found ways to finance the farmland as well as the equipment needed to farm.
  • Works Progress Administration

    Works Progress Administration
    The WPA was established May 6, 1935 during the Second New Deal to provide unemployed people with jobs. Those workers began building the infrastructure to support future society in America.
  • Wagner Act

    Wagner Act
    The Wagner Act (NLRB) was a part of the Second New Deal in making unions legal so that employees had a voice at the company they worked for. This was a relief effort passed inn June of 1935 to immediately give aid to the unheard working class of America.
  • Social Security Act

    Social Security Act
    This act was a relief effort for the elderly to have support when they get to age where they can't work anymore. This support came from a fund made for social security where retired citizens were paid a fixed amount out this fund for the rest of their lives. This act was a part of the Second New Deal.
  • Soil Conversation Act

    Soil Conversation Act
    This act was established during the Second New Deal period on February 29, 1935. This act was created to to control the the usage of the land; the act protected the land from the continue of erosion and provided help to prevent floods.
