Nelson Mandela was born in Mvezo, Transkei.

His father was Gadla Henry Mandela and his mother was Nosekeni Fanny. Nelson also had three brothers and three sisters.

The first school he visited was a small methodist school in Qunu.

With 16 years, he went to the Clarkebury Boarding Instutute in Engcobo.

With 19 years old he visited Healdtown Methodist College in Fort Beaufort.

After College he went to University College in Fort Hare in Alice. He had studies in english, politics, anthropology and roman-dutch rights

He arrived in South Africa after he fled from home because his father wanted him to marry a stranger. In South Africa he was working as a watchman.

In South Africa he was also active as a heavy weight boxer. Another hobby Nelson had was reading and writing books.

He completed the Bachelor of Arts at the University of South Africa.

He was married to Evelyn Mase. They had four children together. In 1957 they split up.

At the Witwatersrand-University he began his jurisprudence. There he couldn't graduate beacause of his political career.

His second wife was Winnie Madikizela. They had two children. They then eventually divorced in 1994.

He was arrested and sent to prison. In total he spent 27 years in jail.

When he turned 80, he married his last wife Graca Machel. They didn't have children though.
