    Nelson Mandela was born in Mvezo, Transkei. He was born in a small village. Rolihlahla Mandela was Nelson's name at birth. It means 'pulling the branch on a tree.' but it also means “troublemaker”. His father gave him this name.

    There is no exact date, but sometime in 1938, Nelson was admitted to University of Fort Hare, a black institution. when he was there, he was elected to the students' representative council.

    There is not an exact date, but sometime in April of 1940 Nelson Mandela became a member of the ANC with his friends Oliver Tambo and Walter Sisulu. Dissatified with the ANC, in 1940 Nelson helped create an ANC youth group. In 1950, Nelson Mandela became a member of the National Executive Council.

    August 5th, 1962: arrested, November 7th, 1962: Sentenced to five years in jail for leaving country without a passport, May 27th, 1963: Transferred to Robben Island jail, June 12th, 1963: Transferred back to Pretoria Local Prison, 11 June 1964: Convicted of sabotage, 12 June 1964: Sentenced to life imprisonment.
