Nelson joins the ANC. He helps create the youth league. The youth league plans to organize peaceful protest against discrimination and segregation

The Government of South Africa starts to pass the Apartheid laws.

The police shoots peaceful protesters. 69 people died and Government banned the ANC

The ANC becomes a secret organization. Nelson travles under a false name to support for the ANC

Nelson is Arrested for coming back to South Africa under a false name. Also the other ANC member faced death penalty for organizing violence against the state. He is sentenced to a life in prison to Robben Island.

Life in prison is very hard and the prison cells are very small. There are not allowed to listen to the news or read the News paper. He was allowed to write 2 letters and found that one of his son was death

The Government starts to talk to Nelson to stop apartheid. He moved to more comfortable prisons

After 27 years in prison Nelson is released.

The first democratic election are organize in South Africa. This means that everyone can vote. They voted Nelson as president of South Africa

Nelson steps down as president after one term and establish the Mandela foundation

Nelson died at the age of 95 on December 5th
