    Birth/Early Life of Nelson Mandela
    He was born July 18, 1918 in Mveso, South Africa. His Father died when he was at the age of 9 and the he was adopted. He left his village to attend school and when he later returned after dropping out of school his adopted father had a prearranged marriage for him. When he found out about this he fled his village and went to Johannesburg where he studied law (Editors) (Mandela).

    In 1943, he joined the African National Congress (ANC) to campaign for justice for the people of South Africa. He continued to protest and boycott apartheid until he was put on trial in 1963 (Nelson).

    Wins Nobel Peace Prize and Becomes President
    Mandela won half of the Nobel Peace Prize with Frederik Willem de Klerk in 1993. They split half the prize. It was for peacefully getting rid of the apartheid in the government that South Africa had. Later in 1994 he was elected to be President of South Africa where he served until 1999 (The Nobel Peace Prize 1993)(President).

    Nelson Mandela died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 95. His funeral/memorial was held on December 15, 2013. He was buried in his hometown of Qunu.
