My School in 2020

  • Plugged In

All students will have a device to use during the instructional day at school.
  • Digital Immigrants Go Native

Teachers will consciously integrate technology into daily instruction. They will model the use a variety of programs (such as using timetoast to create a timeline of events in a piece of literature). Students will be required to complete work on the computer to demonstrate their understanding of the content.
  • Imaginariums

Classrooms will become "laboratories for learning" - where students may utilize the whole classroom to engage in learning and collaboration. Seating will be flexible. Gone are the "sit and get' lessons with students sitting in rows of desks.
  • Homework Goes Green

All homework will be paperless. Assignments may include submitting written work in DropBox, posting comments on a virtual bulletin board, or creating a presi or slide show. Students may also need to practice a skill by playing a "game" online for a period of time each night.
  • Flipped Classrooms

Teachers will implement the "Flipped Classroom" model where "whole-group, direct instruction" is delivered digitally to students for "homework" and guided and independent work is completed in class with the teacher there to support.
  • Digital Learning Sources

Textbooks will be replaced to carefully selected materials from a variety of primary and secondary sources.
  • No Speed Limits!

Students will not have to sit through instruction that they've already mastered. Rather, they will be allowed to move through content at their own pace and on a path that compliments their learning style and needs.
