    magnetic tape was used for recording audio and video onto. there were devices that used magnetic tape to store audio and video, these were called tape drives.

    the Walkman was an iconic and quite revolutionary portable tape player that allowed people to listen to whatever music they had available to them on cassette in the privacy of their own headphones wherever they like,
  • portable CD player

    The portable CD player is similar to the Walkman however may have had more design flaws as a lot of them you had to hold flat to get a clear play through with no scratching. However the CD players allowed for a better quality of music and the same portability that everyone had grown to love.

    Pro tools is a Digital audio workstation (DAW) that can be used to make any variety of genres of music and sound.
  • mp3

    an mp3 or 'mpeg-1 audio layer III is an audio file type that is digital and used worldwide today to store songs and things of that nature. they are good because compared to something like a WAV file you can still have very high quality audio at a smaller file size.

    Limewire was one of the first dedicated file sharing platforms used to illegally distribute music to other people, now days it is shut down, but there are other platforms that are very similar that are still out there.

    Cubase is another DAW that allows you to make and produce whatever kind of music you want too, similar to pro tools it has a graphic representation of midi patterns drawn into the playlist from software instruments.
  • Youtube

    YouTube is a huge video sharing and original content making online platform. It is free but you have to watch ads and it pulls some of the most traffic on the internet. It is very revolutionary and has spawned a new medium of entertainment mainly consumed by the current generation.
  • spotify

    spotify is a subscription based music streaming service. services like this allow you to listen to any music you want instead of buying one song.
  • logic pro

    logic pro is one of the most currently used and up to date DAWs however this being said it at its core, is not really any different from any other daw, it allows you to make and produce whatever you want in whatever genre you want with relative ease, it is quite accessible to new learners.
  • apple music

    Apple music is the other biggest music streaming platform, what you get it is no different to spottily other than occasionally artists have certain deals where their music is only released on said platform. For example Jay Z had a deal with Tidal where his album 4:44 wasn't released on any other platform
