    Late Period (1534–1600)
    The Roman School was a group of composers of predominantly church music in Rome, spanning the late Renaissance and early Baroque eras. Many of the composers had a direct connection to the Vatican and the papal chapel, though they worked at several churches; stylistically they are often contrasted with the Venetian School of composers, a concurrent movement which was much more progressive. By far the most famous composer of the Roman School is Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.

    The 1960's were a time of upheaval in society, fashion, attitudes and especially music. Before 1963, the music of the sixties still reflected the sound, style and beliefs of the previous decade and many of the hit records were by artists who had found mainstream success in the 1950s, like Elvis Presley, Ray Charles, Dion, and The Everly Brothers.

    Music in the 1980s was all about image and with the advent and popularity of MTV, the images that accompanied artists became more important than ever. here were also several new genres that popped up including, Hip Hop, New Wave and Hair Metal, all of which have influenced music today.

    Pop still sold strong. Country did well. Rap and hip-hop exploded. Industrial went mainstream. Even electronic music came to the forefront. I mean, if David Bowie does a drum n bass record you know it’s popular. Artists such as Nirvana, No Doubt, Motely Crue, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Queensryche, Extreme, Garth Brooks, U2, Skid Row and Metallica all were selling strong.

    The 2000s were, for the most part, nondescript, as pop music fragmented into smaller trends. Unlike many past decades, the 2000s did not see the creation or emergence of many styles, with the exception of a few indie-related genres such as emo. Artists such as The Libertines, Oasis, Lynda Thomas, Travis, Dido, Blur, The Hives, Björk and Radiohead, and still continue with up coming artists and songs.
