Renaissance Music Era
The era last from the mid 1400s to the 1600s. It was smooth and relaxing -
Baroque Music
Lasted from about 1650 to 1750. The first operas were written. Composers wrote for small ensembles including strings, brass, and woodwinds, as well as choirs, pipe organ, harpsichord, and clavichord. Composers from the Baroque era include Johann Sebastian Bach. -
Classical Period
Lasted from 1750s to the 1800s. Features a prominent melody with accompaniment. These new melodies tended to be almost voice-like and singable. Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart were the main composers then. -
Romantic Era
Lasted from 1800s to 1895. Ludwig van Beethoven and Franz Schubert are composers who introduced a more dramatic, expressive style, during this era. -
19th Century Music
Lasted to about 1940s. A dramatic expansion in the size of the orchestra, and in the role of concerts occured. Composers such as Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Gustav Mahler created much longer musical works. -

Rock music branched out into different subgenres, ranging from blues rock and jazz-rock fusion to heavy metal and punk rock, as well as the more classical influenced genre of progressive rock and several types of experimental rock genres. -
Medieval Music
This era was from the 500s to 1400s.It was consdidered upbeat with drums but today it's talked of as a steady beat. One composer from this period is Léonin.
