    Emmett Till
    Emmett Till was a 14 year old boy who was brutally beat and hung in Mississippi. the reason for this ws he reportidly flirted with young white girl.
  • Montegomery Bus Boycott

    Montegomery Bus Boycott
    The bus boycotts had more than just one main protester. But one of the most publicized was a women named Rosa Parks, she was a woman who refused to give up her seat to a white man. This led to blacks not using the public transportation systems. And it forced the city to integrate the buses.
  • Little Rock Nine

    Little Rock Nine
    Central High School was located in Little Rock, Arkansas. it had nine African American students who were denied the right to attend that school. It gained national attention and the President Eisenhower sent the Army to help the kids finally be admitted into the school.
  • Greensboro Sit-In's

    Greensboro Sit-In's
    Sit-Ins occurred all over the country but S.N.C.C. was a corporation for colege students and they would go into restaurants and sit at the counters. These counters that they sat at were reserved for whites. When they were asked to move the refused and the police would be called. When police arrived to arrest the first group the second would sit in the same seats.

    Bull Conner
    Eugene "Bull" Connor was the police chief at the time of the Birmingham Campaign. He completely supported segregation and stopped the marches. He even brought police dogs to a peacefull children protest.
  • March on Washington

    March on Washington
    This march was the largest civil rights march in histor. Many important civil rights leaders and activist were in attendence. MLK gave the last speech of the day and it was one of his most known. The spech was the "I Have a Dream" speech.
  • 16th Baptist Church

    16th Baptist Church
    This historical church was were Martin Luther King Jr. had given many speeches and sermons. It was also where the children all met to protest. The day after the protest it ws bombed 50 injured and 4 children died. This tested the protester to see if the could remain peaceful.
  • Freedom Summer

    Freedom Summer
    Freedom Summer was when college students went to Mississippi to get blacks to register to vote. Many southerners did not lkke it, and 3 students came up missing. Their were 2 whites and 1 black. They were later found buried together all died.
  • Civil Rights Act of 1964

    Civil Rights Act of 1964
    The Civil Rights Act baned discrimination in employment, and public accomendations. Many southern congressmen opposed this and ttried to cancel it. but it di not work and President Lydon B. Johnson still signed the act.
  • Voting Rights Act

    Voting Rights Act
    This Act after many years of protest and hard work was finally passed by a large majority. Many major civil rights leaders such as Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King attended the signing of the bill.
