  • Nazis take the Sudetenland

    Why did this event take place?
    Hitler did not like the idea of the agreement; he threatened to take the Sudetenland land by force. The Czechoslovakian government resisted, but Britain and France didn’t want to get involved with the war. They called up Hitler and made a place and date to meet up with him. September 29th was the day they made an agreement with each other.

    What effects/outcomes did this event cause?
    After when Hitler, Britain, France and Italy made the agreement, the Czechoslovakian government agreed with the papers but began protesting out to the world. They stated “Were being abandoned… peace for our time….” This didn’t bring peace. The Nazis invaded Poland in the spring of 1939 and in September 1939. This started World War II.

    What happened in this event?
    On September 30th, 1938 Germany, Great Britain, France, and Italy joined together and they all signed an agreement to allow the Nazis to a region that was home to a lot of Germans. Then Hitler threatens to take over the land by force. At this point Britain and France are willing to make an agreement with Hitler. On September 29th Hitler and Britain made an agreement. Along with France and Italy.

    What happened in this event?
    On August 23rd 1939, representatives from Germany and the Soviet Union met each other and signed the Nazi-Soviet Non-Aggression Pact. This guaranteed that these two countries would not attack each other.

    I choose this picture because these are the areas that are involved in the Non-Aggression Pact.

    Why did this event take place?
    Hitler was planning against the possibility for a two-front war. When Germany was fighting a two front war before in World War I, it had split the forces and weakened them. He didn’t want to make the same mistake twice so he signs the non-aggressive act.

    What effects/outcomes did this event?
    On September 1st, 1939 the Germany attacked Poland and the Soviet Union just watched. Because of the Non-Aggression Pact that they signed, the soviets didn’t join the fight against Germany. Germany was successful in the fight.

    What happened in this event?
    In the morning of September 1st, 1939 German battleships attacked Poland. This started World War II. Germany had 2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes when they attacked. But this may have not been good for Germany because they were still a weak army and their economy wasn’t great either.

    The picture above is showing when the Germans were marching throughout Poland after they surrendered.

    Why did this event take place?
    Hitler must have thought Germany didn’t have enough land. He wanted to expand Germany’s land so he attacked Poland.
    What Effects/ outcomes did this event cause?
    When Germany came with their tanks and planes the Poland army was defeated within weeks after they attacked. Poland’s army surrendered to the Germans on September 27, 1939. They remained under German occupation until January 1945.

    What happened in this event?
    The French made their defenses stronger while the British moved troops to the continent. The British wanted to send their troops over to bomb Germany but France didn’t want them do it because they were afraid of Germany.

    Why did this event take place?
    The British military wanted to determine how it was that these events happened and how quickly they went horribly wrong. They were completely unprepared to face Hitler.

    At “every turn” Germany’s allies were fought out. Meaning every time they went to fight they lost.

    What happen in this event?
    German forces invaded the Soviet Union on June 22, 1941 with three army group including over 3 million Germans. Italy, Croatia, Slovakia and Hungary helped them.
    Why did this event take place?
    Hitler decided to attack the Soviet Union a year later after July 1940. The negotiated arrangements and solved it.

    What effects/outcomes did this event cause?
    Lots of Soviet Union soldiers were defeated in this.

    What happened in this event?
    Japan came over here with their 2,400,000 trained army group. They also came over with 7,500 planes. They attacked us.
    Why did this event take place?
    Japan thought or began to think that Pearl Harbor was their only threat. They went on with war plans and attacked us.
    What effects / outcomes did this event cause?
    Within two hours of the attack Japan had sunken 21 of our ships and killed more than 2,000 Americans.

    What happened in this event?
    On 6 June 1944 they launched onto the land when the weather was nice. Ships and crafts headed over the English Channel. They arrived before dawn, but there were already some people that were there.
    Why did this event take place?
    The western allies were waiting for the “Second Front” against Hitler.
    What effects / outcomes did this event cause?
    Hitler and his army was shoved and sent back to their homeland.

    People wanted to attack Germany. They are fighting back I guess.

    Germany surrendered.

    What happened in this event?
    Hitler took all the Jews and put them in concentration camps. If they were weak he put them in gas chambers and they were there left to die. He gave them almost no food and they worked. I think the big reason is because he didn’t like them.

    On December 16th 1945 three German armies landed and attacked land in the west. It was known as the deadliest war.
    Why did this event take place?
    The main objective was to split the Northwest Europe allies apart.

    It suffered “100,000 casualties”.
